Let’s Play Doom 2D part 1

Today I’m starting a let’s play of a 1996 freeware action platformer Doom 2D. All of our old familiar friends from Doom are here, along with a good portion of challenging level design by a bunch of Russians of Prikol Software. Let’s cut through some imps! Download the game & its source code here (Russian): […]

Hidden Games

Today I take a look at a few secret games hidden inside other games. These include: an additional campaign in a classic RTS, a real time two player artillery game in a shmup, two text adventures in a space trading sim, and Doom WADs in an adventure game. More games inside old familiar classics? Count […]

DOS Nostalgia Podcast #24: Leisure Suit Larry

A fellow DOS enthusiast Mat Bradley-Tschirgi returns to talk about Al Lowe’s Leisure Suit Larry games in both nostalgic and objective ways. Zone 66 full soundtrack (Sound Blaster + GUS + AdLib)

Today I present to you full soundtrack from Zone 66 (Renaissance/Epic MegaGames, 1993) composed by Kenny Chou. What is specifically interesting about this game is that for each of the three sound devices this game supports the music is actually different. Sound Blaster score is a mix of FM synthesis and digital samples. Gravis UltraSound […]

Space Quest 5 non-interactive demo

A non-interactive demo of Space Quest V: The Next Mutation. Interesting because of a few unique resources and its use of Dynamix’s in-house adventure tools instead of Sierra’s engine that the final game uses. Download the demo here: http://scummvm.org/demos/

Another World playthrough

Today I take you through one of my favorite games, a 1991 French cinematic platformer Another World (renamed “Out of this World” in the States when published by Interplay). I try to comment as much as I can on the game itself, as well as point out the occasional differences between the DOS version and […]

GAMOS puzzle series – Russian DOS games

Conquests of the Longbow talkie demo

Apparently at one point Sierra was developing a talkie version of Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood, but the project was cancelled. This short non-interactive demo is all that survived.

Gobliins 2 – Let’s Play (Part 4)

The recently freed Prince Buffoon has thrown a tantrum and refused to cooperate. As a result our heroes need to get him off a tree first and then rescue him from his own mushroom-enduced nightmare immediately after, only to see him being carried away by a bird. See me struggle with a few repetitive sequences.

LOOM™ EGA vs VGA

A long overdue video about differences between versions of LucasFilm Games’ classic LOOM. I explain why I’m not really fond of the VGA CD-ROM update of the game. I also briefly touch on the FM Towns version. Long story short: play the EGA one. (P.S. You can still ask me about LOOM) My original review […]

Mortal Kombat games

Mortal Kombat games were ported to every home platform ever because people love brutally beating the crap out of each other. How good are the DOS conversions (mostly handled by Probe Entertainment)? Let’s find out! Buy DOS Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 on GOG: http://www.gog.com/game/mortal_kombat_123

Gobliins 2 – Let’s Play (Part 3)

Adventure continues! I’d free Prince Buffoon much faster if I didn’t get stuck on two super annoying levels of this wonderful game. I complain a lot. Sorry.

Gobliins 2 – Let’s Play (Part 2)

Our adventure continues! Sit down and listen to me talk nonsense while two brave goblins make their way through the castle and an undersea world. I complain about the sunken ship level a bunch.
